Foundation Scriptures:
And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. 3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. Acts 2:1-4 KJV

1. Jesus Promised to Send the Holy Spirit.
a. Jesus said: I am going to My Father (John 14:12), but I won’t leave you alone (as an orphan) — I’m sending you the Holy Spirit.
b. He will remain with you FOREVER. He will live WITH you and be IN you.
c. John 14:16-18 KJV — “And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. 18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.”
d. The Holy Spirit is our Comforter; Counselor; Helper; Advocate; Intercessor; Strengthener; Standby; Teacher.

2. The Holy Spirit Represents Jesus and Acts on His Behalf.
a. John 16:7 KJV — “Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.”
b. The Father will send the Holy Spirit in Jesus’ Name — in His place — to represent Him and act in His behalf.
c. The Holy Spirit will teach you all things and He will cause you to recall (remind you of, bring to your remembrance) everything Jesus has said.
d. John 14:26 KJV — “But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.”
e. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth, which proceeds from the Father — He testifies regarding Jesus.
f. John 15:26
g. John 16:13
h. The Holy Spirit will guide you into all the Truth (the whole, full Truth).
i. He will honor and glorify Jesus.
j. He will not speak His own message; He will not speak on His own authority.
k. He will tell whatever He hears from the Father; He will give the message that has been given to Him.
l. He will give us revelation and understanding concerning God’s will and His Word.
m. He will announce and declare to you the things that are to come.

3. Jesus is the One Who Baptizes Us in the Holy Ghost and Fire.
a. First, you must be born again.
b. John 3:3
c. John 20:22
d. Luke 3:16
e. Acts 1:5 KJV — “For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.”
f. You will receive power — boldness — to be a witness.
g. Acts 1:8

4. Speaking in Tongues.
a. On the Day of Pentecost, they were all in one accord in one place.
b. Suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were.
c. Tongues of fire appeared on each of them.
d. THEY began to speak in tongues as the Holy Spirit gave them the UTTERANCE.
e. YOU do the speaking and the HOLY SPIRIT will give you the words.
f. You receive the Holy Spirit the same way you receive salvation — by faith.
g. You ask Him to fill you and you open your heart to receive.
h. You open your mouth and you speak it by faith (out of your spirit — not your head).
i. Speaking in tongues is the initial evidence of the baptism of the Holy Spirit.
j. This is a prayer language given to us to use anytime we choose.
k. You can turn it on or turn it off.
l. It is different from the Gift of Tongues and Interpretation, which are as the Spirit wills.
m. One is not better than the other — we need both.
n. 1 Corinthians 14:2 KJV — “For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.”
o. When you pray in tongues, you — or anyone else — don’t know what you are praying.
p. He who speaks in an unknown tongue speaks not unto man, but unto God.
q. In the Spirit, you are speaking mysteries (secret truths; hidden things).
r. It is the Holy Spirit praying to the Father though you.
s. 1 Corinthians 14:4 KJV — “He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church.”
t. When you pray in tongues, you edify yourself — you bless and build up yourself spiritually.
u. When a person operates in the Gift of Tongues and Interpretation it is for the edification of the Body of Christ (you and other people).

5. Praying in the Holy Spirit.
a. You strengthen and build yourself up, spiritually, when you pray in the Holy Ghost.
b. Jude 1:20 KJV — “But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost.”
c. When we don’t know WHAT to pray or HOW to pray, He prays through us.
d. Romans 8:26-27 KJV — “Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. 27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.”
e. The Holy Spirit comes to our aid and bears us up in our weakness.
f. The Holy Spirit intercedes on our behalf, in harmony with God’s will.
g. He prays the PERFECT WILL OF GOD for us, over us and through us.
