Whatsoever You Do in Word or Deed Do Everything in the Name of the Lord Jesus – Part II
From The HeartPublish date: 12/29/2013
And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him. Colossians 3:17 NKJV
To do everything in the Name of the Lord Jesus – in word or deed – is to do what is pleasing to Him, and also what brings honor and glory to Him. As we seek to please God and to do what we do in the name of Jesus, we must do these things:
6. Forbear with all men.
Be gentle and forbearing with one another… Colossians 3:13a AMP
We must not only do no hurt to anyone, but we must do what good we can to all.
7. Forgive all men.
Be gentle and forbearing with one another and, if one has a difference (a grievance or complaint) against another, readily pardoning each other; even as the Lord has [freely] forgiven you, so must you also [forgive]. Colossians 3:13 AMP
Jesus has freely forgiven us and asks us – from our heart - to be patient and forgiving with others.
So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not everyone his brother their trespasses. Matthew 18:35 KJV
8. Put on divine love.
And above all these [put on] love and enfold yourselves with the bond of perfectness [which binds everything together completely in ideal harmony]. Colossians3:14 AMP
Verse 12 says that we should clothe ourselves in tender mercy, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering, gentleness, patience, and forgiveness. Verse 14 says that we must put on divine love as an outer garment - which is the finishing touch of a well-dressed Christian. Love covers all, unites all, and binds us together as one in God’s perfectness and harmony.
Love endures long and is patient and kind; love never is envious nor boils over with jealousy, is not boastful or vainglorious, does not display itself haughtily. 5 It is not conceited (arrogant and inflated with pride); it is not rude (unmannerly) and does not act unbecomingly. Love (God's love in us) does not insist on its own rights or its own way, for it is not self-seeking; it is not touchy or fretful or resentful; it takes no account of the evil done to it [it pays no attention to a suffered wrong]. 6 It does not rejoice at injustice and unrighteousness, but rejoices when right and truth prevail. 7 Love bears up under anything and everything that comes, is ever ready to believe the best of every person, its hopes are fadeless under all circumstances, and it endures everything [without weakening]. 8 Love never fails [never fades out or becomes obsolete or comes to an end]. 1 Corinthians 13:4-8a AMP
9. Let peace be the umpire of your life.
And let the peace (soul harmony which comes) from Christ rule (act as umpire continually) in your hearts [deciding and settling with finality all questions that arise in your minds, in that peaceful state] to which as [members of Christ's] one body you were also called [to live]. And be thankful (appreciative), [giving praise to God always]. Colossians 3:15 AMP
Allow peace to rule your heart. This word “rule” means: to be an umpire; to arbitrate, direct, and govern. Peace must be your boss and lead you and guide you. You are called to live in peace in all things and through all things. And also to be thankful and appreciative, continually giving praise to God.
10. Know the Bible – know the Word of God.
Let the word [spoken by] Christ (the Messiah) have its home [in your hearts and minds] and dwell in you in [all its] richness... Colossians 3:16a AMP
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 2 Timothy 2:15 KJV
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 KJV
11. Teach and admonish one another.
Let the word [spoken by] Christ (the Messiah) have its home [in your hearts and minds] and dwell in you in [all its] richness, as you teach and admonish and train one another in all insight and intelligence and wisdom [in spiritual things, and as you sing] psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, making melody to God with [His] grace in your hearts. Colossians 3:16 AMP
12. Use the Christian's power of attorney.
And whatever you do [no matter what it is] in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus and in [dependence upon] His Person, giving praise to God the Father through Him. Colossians 3:17 AMP
And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you. John 16:23 KJV
Whatever we ask for must be asked of the Father in Jesus’ name. Whatever we do – in word or deed – must be done in the name of the Lord Jesus. It must be done in total dependence upon Him and must bring praise to God the Father through Jesus Christ.
