Foundation Scriptures:
And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night. 11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death. Revelation 12:10-11 KJV
1. The Testimony of the Lord.
a. Psalms 19:7 KJV –– The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.
b. “Testimony” also means “witness” or “evidence.”
c. It is used in the Old Testament to describe God’s precepts, laws, and covenants.
d. Psalms 25:10 KJV –– All the paths of the Lord are mercy and truth unto such as keep his covenant and his testimonies.
e. A covenant or a Word of God is called a testimony because it testifies and reveals Who God is, what He does, and what He will do.
f. It could refer to a revelation or prophetic word from the Holy Spirit (1 Pet. 1:11).
g. Psalms 40:7 KJV –– Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the book it is written of me.
h. Jesus declared, “You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me” (John 5:39 NKJV).
i. A testimony is a revelation of the redemption we have in Christ, and all that has been provided to us, by God, through Him.
2. An Occasion for a Testimony.
a. The Greek word translated “testimony” is “martyrion” from whence we get our word, “martyr.”
b. Even death, or the threat of death, has never been able to prevent or silence the witness and testimony of the Gospel, throughout the history of the Church.
c. Luke 21:10-19 NKJV –– Then He said to them, “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. 11 And there will be great earthquakes in various places, and famines and pestilences; and there will be fearful sights and great signs from heaven. 12 But before all these things, they will lay their hands on you and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues and prisons. You will be brought before kings and rulers for My name’s sake. 13 But it will turn out for you as an occasion for testimony. 14 Therefore settle it in your hearts not to meditate beforehand on what you will answer; 15 for I will give you a mouth and wisdom which all your adversaries will not be able to contradict or resist. 16 You will be betrayed even by parents and brothers, relatives and friends; and they will put some of you to death. 17 And you will be hated by all for My name’s sake. 18 But not a hair of your head shall be lost. 19 By your patience possess your souls.
d. Whatever difficulty you experience, if you will trust the Word of God and surrender to the leading of the Holy Spirit, you will overcome.
e. Your test and trial will be turned into a great testimony and a witness to the goodness of God!
3. Your Testimony.
a. Revelation 12:11a KJV –– And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony.
b. The key to victory over the enemy is the Blood of Jesus and the bold, uncompromised preaching of the Gospel.
c. 1 John 4:14-15 NKJV –– And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent the Son as Savior of the world. 15 Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God.
d. It is a testimony of Who God is, what He has done for all mankind.
e. John 3:11a NKJV –– Most assuredly, I say to you, We speak what We know and testify what We have seen…
f. You testify—witness to and give evidence of—what you’ve seen God do and what He has done for you, personally.
g. Psalms 119:88 NKJV –– Revive me according to Your lovingkindness, So that I may keep the testimony of Your mouth.
h. God saved you and gave you a new heart and eternal life.
i. If you obey and serve Him, you also have a testimony of His saving and healing power, and His protection and provision.
j. Your witness, your testimony, is a blessing and encouragement to others and a reminder to you of what He has done for you.
k. 2 Thessalonians 1:10 KJV –– When he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that day.
l. Your testimony of Jesus brings Him glory.
m. Acts 20:24 NKJV –– But none of these things move me; nor do I count my life dear to myself, so that I may finish my race with joy, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.
