Wise Men Still Seek Him

Foundation Scriptures:

Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, 2 Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.

Matthew 2:1-2 KJV

 

A. Wise Men Seek Him Through His Revelation.

1. God Reveals Himself in Creation.

a. Psalms 19:1 NKJV –– The heavens declare the glory of God; And the firmament shows His handiwork.

b. Romans 1:20 NKJV ––  For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead…

 

2. God Reveals Himself Through His Word.

a. Psalms 119:105 KJV –– Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

b. Isaiah 46:9-10 KJV –– Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me, 10 Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure.

 

3. God Reveals Himself Through His Son.

a. Hebrews 1:1-2 NKJV –– God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, 2 has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds.

b. John 1:14 KJV –– And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

 

B. Wise Men Worship Him with Reverence.

1. They Bow Before Him.

a. Matthew 2:11a KJV –– And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him.

 

2. They Offer Him Gifts.

a. Matthew 2:11b KJV –– …and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.

 

3. They Rejoice in His Presence.

a. Matthew 2:10 KJV –– When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.

 

C. Wise Men Obey Him Above All.

1. They Follow His Guidance.

a. Proverbs 3:5-6 NKJV –– Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.

 

2. They Avoid Evil for His Sake.

a. Matthew 2:12 KJV –– And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.

 

3. They Are Faithful to His Calling.

a. 1 Corinthians 4:2 KJV –– Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.

b. 2 Thessalonians 1:11 KJV –– Wherefore also we pray always for you, that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfil all the good pleasure of his goodness, and the work of faith with power.

 

D. Wise Men Seek Him with Their Whole Heart.

1. Seeking Requires Faith.

a. Hebrews 11:6 NKJV –– But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. 

 

2. Seeking Requires Desire.

a. Psalms 42:1 NKJV –– As the deer pants for the water brooks, So pants my soul for You, O God. 

b. Genuine desire for God means delighting in the Lord.

c. Psalms 40:8 NKJV –– I delight to do Your will, O my God, And Your law is within my heart.

d. Romans 7:22 NKJV –– For I delight in the law of God according to the inward man.

e. Psalms 37:4 NKJV –– Delight yourself also in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.

 

3. Seeking Requires Persistence.

a. Jeremiah 29:13 NKJV –– And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.

 

E. Wise Men Proclaim Him to Others.

1. They Declare His Name.

a. Psalms 96:3 KJV –– Declare his glory among the heathen, his wonders among all people.

 

2. They Share the Good News.

a. Mark 16:15 NKJV –– And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.

b. Proverbs 11:30 NKJV –– The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, And he who wins souls is wise. 

 

3. They Shine as Witnesses.

a. Matthew 5:16 KJV –– Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

 

F. God Rewards the Seeker.

1. Come, Drink, Receive.

a. Revelation 22:17 KJV –– And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.
