Your Fulfillment is in Your Assignment

Foundation Scriptures:
John 4:4-42
1. Connected to Eternity.
a. Your assignment must be connected to eternity.
b. Seek first the Kingdom—make it your top priority.
c. Matthew 6:33 KJV — But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
d. Souls and the harvest.
e. The only things that will matter, 100 years from today.
2. Learning from Jesus.
a. We learn this lesson from following Jesus—He is our example.
b. In John 4, Jesus was about—occupied with—His Father’s business.
c. He was giving away the Living Water—which is eternal—from a source which never runs dry.
d. He had been walking from Judea to Galilee and stopped in Samaria.
e. He was tired, so He rested on Jacob’s Well, while the disciples went to buy food.
f. He asked the Samaritan woman at the well for a drink of water, and then began to minister to her.
g. He spoke to her about the Living Water.
h. Drink it and you will never thirst again.
i. Verse 14: But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.
3. Waters of Refreshing.
a. As He ministered to her, He began to be refreshed, Himself.
b. Proverbs 11:25 KJV — The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself.
c. Be generous, be a blessing, with temporal things—yet always focusing on the eternal.
d. John 4:31-34 AMPC
e. Verse 31: Meanwhile, the disciples urged Him saying, Rabbi, eat something.
f. Verse 32: But He assured them, I have food (nourishment) to eat of which you know nothing and have no idea.
g. Verse 33: So the disciples said one to another, Has someone brought Him something to eat?
h. Verse 34: Jesus said to them, My food (nourishment) is to do the will (pleasure) of Him Who sent Me and to accomplish and completely finish His work.
i. Jesus is saying that His fulfillment is linked to His assignment.
4. The Harvest.
a. Jesus immediately points towards the harvest of souls.
b. John 4:35-38 AMPC
c. Verse 35: Do you not say, It is still four months until harvest time comes? Look! I tell you, raise your eyes and observe the fields and see how they are already white for harvesting.
d. Verse 36: Already the reaper is getting his wages [he who does the cutting now has his reward], for he is gathering fruit (crop) unto life eternal, so that he who does the planting and he who does the reaping may rejoice together.
e. Verse 37: For in this the saying holds true, One sows and another reaps.
f. Verse 38: I sent you to reap a crop for which you have not toiled. Other men have labored and you have stepped in to reap the results of their work.
g. This is so powerful!
h. You will reap a crop for which you did not labor—reaping where others have sown.
5. Reaping Where You Have Not Sown.
a. Other men have labored, and you step in to reap the results of their work.
b. Do you understand this?
c. This is God’s favor.
d. Amos 9:13 AMPC — Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, that the plowman shall overtake the reaper, and the treader of grapes him who sows the seed; and the mountains shall drop sweet wine and all the hills shall melt [that is, everything heretofore barren and unfruitful shall overflow with spiritual blessing].
h. The plowman will overtake the reaper.
i. You will have such a harvest that you won’t be able to bring it all in before the next season starts.
j. You will have fruit left over, from season to season.
k. Your fruitful vineyards will cover the mountain.
l. Leviticus 26:5 AMPC — And your threshing [time] shall reach to the vintage and the vintage [time] shall reach to the sowing time, and you shall eat your bread to the full and dwell in your land securely.
m. All this is for the glory of God and for the extension and establishment of His Kingdom.
n. 1 Corinthians 3:6-7 KJV — I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase. 7 So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase.
o. Get ready!
