Tongues—The Gateway to the Supernatural

And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. 3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. Acts 2:1-4 KJV
1. Tongues is the Gateway to the Supernatural.
a. Mark 16:17-18 KJV — And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; 18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
b. This is why the devil has fought speaking in tongues more than anything else.
c. 1 Corinthians 14:39 NKJV — Therefore, brethren, desire earnestly to prophesy, and do not forbid to speak with tongues.
2. Tongues for Supernatural Communication.
a. 1 Corinthians 14:2 NKJV — For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries.
b. 1 Corinthians 14:18 NKJV — I thank my God I speak with tongues more than you all.
c. Hotline to heaven.
3. Tongues for Supernatural Praise.
a. 1 Corinthians 14:15-17 NKJV — What is the conclusion then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will also pray with the understanding. I will sing with the spirit, and I will also sing with the understanding. 16 Otherwise, if you bless with the spirit, how will he who occupies the place of the uninformed say “Amen” at your giving of thanks, since he does not understand what you say? 17 For you indeed give thanks well, but the other is not edified.
b. Sing in the Spirit.
4. Tongues for Supernatural Power.
a. Luke 24:49 KJV — And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.
b. Acts 1:8 KJV — But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
5. Tongues for Supernatural Edification.
a. 1 Corinthians 14:4 NKJV — He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church.

6. Tongues for Supernatural Prayer.
a. Romans 8:26-27 KJV — Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. 27 Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
b. 1 Corinthians 14:14 AMPC — For if I pray in an [unknown] tongue, my spirit [by the Holy Spirit within me] prays, but my mind is unproductive [it bears no fruit and helps nobody].
7. Tongues for Supernatural Refreshing.
a. Isaiah 28:11-12 KJV — For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people. 12 To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear.
b. John 7:37-39 KJV — In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. 38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. 39 (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)
8. Tongues to Overcome Supernaturally.
a. 2 Corinthians 10:4-5 KJV — (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) 5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.
b. Jude 20 KJV — But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost.
c. Galatians 5:16 NKJV — I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.
9. The Holy Spirit, Flowing Through You.
a. Tongues makes you the channel through which the Holy Spirit can operate.
b. Nine gifts.
c. 1 Corinthians 12:7-11 KJV — But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. 8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; 9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; 10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: 11 But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.
d. Tongues stirs you up.
